after a long, exhausting journey through the desert. They’ve just witnessed the
impossible: the sea parted before their eyes, and they crossed on dry ground.
Spirits are high, and hope is renewed.
But three days later, their excitement fades. They come to a spring of
water, eager to drink—and immediately, their hopes turn to despair. The water
is bitter, undrinkable. The mouths of children curl in disgust. Adults
spit and complain. Tension rises.
Moses looks around at the frustrated crowd. People are arguing, blaming one
another, and fear creeps in. “What are we going to do now?” someone whispers.
“Are we going to die of thirst after all God has done?”
In that moment, Moses lifts his eyes and prays, crying out to God for
guidance. Suddenly, God shows him a tree. Simple, unremarkable, just standing
there by the water. Moses obeys, throws the tree into the water—and almost
immediately, the bitter water turns sweet, drinkable, life-giving.
The crowd erupts in joy. Children laugh, adults drink deeply, and their
faith is strengthened. God used a small, ordinary tree to produce a miraculous
transformation. What seemed impossible became possible because Moses obeyed and
God acted.

the Israelites, sometimes life gives us bitter water—situations we cannot
handle. But God can transform the bitter into sweet if we obey and trust
Him.
